My second Bonsai concerto, for piano and small orchestra, builds on many of the concepts of the Bonsai Concerto No. 1, with regard to size and the use of two unspecified instruments (1 wind and 1 plucked string instrument) to provide a heterophonic accompaniment to a core which this time includes bass clarinet, percussion and strings.

The piano uses fistfuls of sixteenth notes in the first movement, and wide-ranging arpeggios in the slower second movement. The third movement reminds me of an early Elton John song, though the harmonic progression is common to many blues songs and Baroque bass lines.
