Bug Music started as a short piece for dance, part of a collaboration between the Dept. of Music and the Dept. of Dance at the University of California at Berkeley. The dances were to take place in various outdoor settings on campus, with the public walking from site to site. My particular portion of the project involved a corner dominated of a large tree, surrounded a garden with many large boulders, and the public overlooking the garden from a plaza on the second story of a building. The choreography involved movements very close to the ground, up the tree and over the rocks: hence the title Bug Music.
